Berry and Apple Crumble

This is a great dish for children to prepare. Serve with ice cream in summer or hot custard & cream in winter.

6 x Granny Smith Apples Large, peeled, cored and chopped

1 punnet strawberries or berries

85ml brown sugar

1ml salt 150ml sugar

150ml flour

150ml oats

100g unsalted butter

10ml cinnamon

Preheat your oven to 180 degrees C. Place the sliced apple and strawberries in an ovenproof dish. Sprinkle with the brown sugar & salt. Place the sugar, flour, cinnamon and oats into a bowl. Then add the butter.

Work the butter into the flour mixture with your fingers and break it all up using your fingertips. It should form a crumbly consistency – if it’s too wet add more flour. When it looks like breadcrumbs you sprinkle this mixture over the fruit and cover it well.

Place in the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until it is golden in colour. Serve when warm with a topping of your choice.
